Mercado San Camilo

After lunch today, I went with Fuller and Emily to Mercado San Camilo. Fuller was looking for fabric so  that she could make some stuff, and she heard that she could get fabric at Mercado San Camilo. And... she was very very right!!! Oh my... I think this place had everything!!! There are a couple other mercados near my house. They are cute little places with stalls where everyone sets up their produce. That's what I was expecting from this mercado, but it was MUCH bigger than that! Oh man! There was a fruit section, a fish section, a chicken section, a beef section, a potato section, a fabric section, a cheese section, a ham section... and there were a lot more sections. I wasn't able to stay very long because I had class, but I definitely want to explore that place another time!!!

Some of the vendors were playing cards.

This is a small fraction of the potato section.

Here's the fruit section!!! LOOK AT ALL THAT FRUIT!!!!!!!!!!

CHEESE

Really, this place was huge and pretty cool.

After the adventure at Mercado San Camilo, I had Didactica de las Matematicas. I really like that class a lot. There are so many things that different here in Arequipa than what I'm used to. For example, I walk past llamas everyday! Cars don't obey traffic signals! People take naps! Chocolate milk is sold in a bag! But... despite all of these differences that I encounter daily, Didactica de las Matematicas reminds me that there is a lot that is shared between cultures and people, also. Some things are associate with cultures, like chocolate milk in a bag. Other things, like desiring to teach students, to love them, to see them learn, to get to know them, to help them... those things are not connected to any culture--it's part of being human, I think.
